Self-Care During The Christmas Hustle | Simplifying Christmas

Sharing is caring!

It’s a busy time of year with Christmas preparation in full swing. All of the hustle and bustle of the season makes for a very tired mom. When trying to find ways to simplify Christmas so I could enjoy this time of year with my family, I had to make time for some self-care.

There are a few favorite items that are essential for my self-care but how does one relax enough to enjoy self-care when “all the things” keep floating around in that busy mom brain?

 Self-Care During The Christmas Hustle

When I’m struggling the most, I find it extremely hard to slow down enough and relax. It becomes stressful as I force myself to take a time-out, however, if I don’t then my health becomes worse and I will crash hard.

The last thing I want is to crash and burn on Christmas day. That would not be good for anyone! So I created a routine where I do something that is relaxing for me while creating an environment that comfortable and relaxing.

Some people will call this very Hygge but I’ve used this for years, even before I understood the Hygge lifestyle.

My personal ingredients for self-care during the Christmas hustle:

  1. Candlelight – usually it will be a scented candle of berries, gingerbread, or vanilla.
  2. Blanket – this will be any of our cozy blankets we constantly keep by the couches.
  3. Kindle or a book – I love my Kindle and will frequently download a few Christmas season romance novels to help get me into the Christmas spirit. They are usually a quick read and I’m hiding the Mom books from curious eyes.
  4. Warm drink – a cup of tea or a hot chocolate is great on a cold winter day. Perfect to help you relax.

That’s it! Simple but filled with comfort and it includes a couple of the stress hacks. I’m challenging you to take a time-out (or two) this holiday season so that you can de-stress and slow life down a bit. Even if you need to book a date with yourself in the schedule, that is okay too. I’m giving you permission to take care of YOU!

Take care and may your Christmas season be simple and filled with blessings!
