Give the Gift of Self-Care | Simple DIY Gift Idea

Sharing is caring!

I’m a huge advocate of self-care because I neglected it for many many years until I realized how bad I was treating myself. Now I frequently use self-care as my nightly or morning routines to help balance life and take care of my mental health. Whether you are creating your own self-care emergency kit or want to give the gift of self-care for someone special, here are some great ideas that will help you kick-start your self-care journey.

Remember to keep it simple and enjoy creating this gift for your loved one. Think about the person you are gifting it to and try to find those simple touches that make it unique for them.

Give the Gift of Self-Care

There are some basic essentials to a self-care gift basket or emergency kit that you might want to consider:

Aromatherapy – There are many options available for that special someone. Finding a scent that is relaxing for that person will be important. Knowing if they have sensitivities to certain scents and which ones to avoid is also important.

DIY Scrubs and Bath Melts – There are some great DIY websites out there in the Pinterest world but I’ve found these 3 websites that had some scrubs and bath melts that looked simple to make.

Candy Cane Sugar Scrub by Fabulous Farm Girl

Vanilla Sugar and Honey Lip Scrub by Fit As A Mama Bear

Milk & Honey Bath Melts by Brendid

Music –  The gift of music is truly one that keeps on giving throughout the year. If the person has an iPod or MP3 player then you can gift them with new earbuds or maybe a gift card for downloading new music. If they are “old school” maybe look for a relaxing CD that they might enjoy. One of my father-in-law’s favorite gifts from us was an ambient relaxation CD, which was surprising for everyone.

Chocolate Lover? – Yes, please! You don’t have to ask me twice! I’d take all forms of chocolate, although dark chocolate that is rich in antioxidants is one of my favorite. I also don’t need to eat the whole bar when it is dark chocolate.

Tea or Coffee Lover? –  Add in a tea set, diffuser, or an interesting new coffee mug to help that loved one relax over a hot drink.

Gift Certificate – Spoil her with a massage, pedicure, or manicure. Make it a promised girl’s day out or treat her for being her.

Books – Add a book that the person might enjoy, or an Amazon gift card for their Kindle e-reader. After all, reading is the #1 stress-busting hack!

My recommended books include:

My personal wish list includes:

Create a “Date Yourself List” as the finishing touch – I came across this article from Put The Kettle On where she listed 10 ideas for taking yourself on a self-date. I love this concept and plan to tackle some of these as part of my personal life goals for 2019.

Once you’ve gathered the items for your “give the gift of self-care” gift, then wrap it up in a pretty basket and a ribbon. Enjoy gifting self-care for that special loved one that truly deserves to make time for self-care. Let’s empower one another to take some “Mom time”. After all, we don’t want to live with regrets.
