Date Nights at Home | Building Strong Marriages

Sharing is caring!

With Valentine’s looming most people are looking for romance tips and date night ideas to spice up their relationships and “Wow!” their partner. I commend you for taking the time to celebrate your spouse, but what about the rest of the year? Are you finding fun in your marriage all year round? Here are some fun date nights at home ideas that I’ve recently found to change up our weekly date nights.

My husband and I have been married for 25 years. He’s not what I would call a huge romantic, but he shows his love for me in his own way. I appreciate all the little ways he shows his love for me. One of them is insisting on hanging out together, just the two of us. This is one date night I always love.

Our typical go-to during the week and on weekends lately has been finding shows we both love and watching them together. With our busy schedule, it is sometimes hard to make sure we are both available when the show is airing though. Our PVR is a date night at home must-have!

The other night I went on the W-Network and scheduled a few romantic movies to save on PVR. I fully expected to watch them by myself when football or hockey was on, but my husband surprised me and suggested we watch one last night together. It’s not his thing, but he did it for me. Love him!

This was a nice surprise but I have been feeling like we are in a dating night rut.

Even though I’m comfortable chilling under a cozy blanket watching Netflix or our PVR, I sometimes need new ideas to spice up the date nights at home. In all honesty, we chose to start budgeting this year and we are feeling a bit restricted on going out. The debt payments on the budget are winning in priority over eating out.

With some quick research on Pinterest, I found some great ideas to help spice up the date nights at home. I’ll share a few of the ideas I loved and the articles, so you can go check them out for yourself.

Date Nights at Home

All of these articles believe that dating your spouse is an all-year necessity, not just a single day of the year to show your love for one another. I completely agree and both my husband and I try to make the effort all year round. I believe our efforts helped strengthen our marriage so that it will outlast empty nest syndrome.

  1. Date Night Ideas for Homebodies – This simple list had some unique ideas. I wish I didn’t live in the Polar Vortex. The pool party for two sounds blissful! I also loved that she included time together doing tasks like gardening as a date idea. After all, it’s spending time together, doing things together.
  2. The Humbled Homemakers Date Ideas – I loved the simplicity of these ideas. They were practical and easy to do on a whim to change up the typical Netflix date. Could the “learn a new skill together” date idea be tiling our new basement shower? *Swoon* I’ve been dreaming of that bathroom blissfully.
  3. Date Ideas by Kendall Rayburn – Again, simplicity! Kendall reminded me of our love of game nights. When we were newlyweds and new parents of babies we would often spend time playing games, just the two of us. One of the games she suggested, guessing what your partner is saying using soundproof headphones, just might make the new game list. I’m hearing the laughter already!
  4. Confidence Meets Parenting Date Ideas – Some of these ideas sent the same message as the lists above, but that has just reinforced that you can do this without having to spend a pile of money or a whole lot of planning. One of my personal favorites from this list is a game that reminds me of Gordon Ramsey’s Hell’s Kitchen. Blind taste testing is a common event in that television series and our family loves the show. I’m sure it would be a great game as a date night, although I’m secretly scared of what I’d have to taste.
  5. Dating Diva’s Ultimate List of Date Ideas – This is the ultimate list for everyone.  From the simple homebodies who just want to chill, geeks looking for unique theme-based dates, and even those that want to spice up the bedroom with some sexy games.

I could have gone on with more and created a super long list for you, but I wanted to keep it simple. Whether you are looking for ways to change up your Valentine’s day on a budget or just want to change up regular date nights at home, these simple date night ideas will give you the confidence to spice up your date nights at home.

If you are wanting to get out of the house on date nights, this article about finding fun in your marriage might give you some ideas as well.
