Adding Texture to Home Decor is Hygge

When discovering what is Hygge life, I was pleased to find out that I didn’t need to get rid of items in my home that bring me comfort. Creating a Hygge home requires adding items that add comfort and warmth. Adding texture to home decor is Hygge and super simple to do. Today is Day 10 of my 30 days of Hygge challenge and I was blessed to find out I already followed this Hygge task.

I will be the first to admit that I’m not an interior designer. I don’t have a chic home. However, Hygge experts might just agree that our home is Hygge worthy.

Our home is comfortable, a work in progress, and very much lived in. It is our safe haven. We have a home that our kids and their friends hang out at. (This is what I love most about our home)

There is texture in pretty much every room to bring warmth and personal touch of comfort. Adding texture to home decor is Hygge. By doing this simple task you can improve your favorite Hyggekrog, and possibly create one in another room or two. This will make it easier to slow life down with Hygge.

According to Better Homes and Gardens, texture in home decor appeals to your senses and makes the room inviting. It can be throw pillows, an area rug, curtains, paint, textured wallpaper, a painting, side table, and even a faux-fur blanket.

From farmhouse to modern decor, there is texture in every style. What is important for creating a Hygge home is that you are focusing on the feeling that texture will add to the space you want to improve.

My favorite spot, my Hyggekrog, has an antique side table gifted to me from my Great Grandmother. It provides warmth in its wood tones and holds the candles I use to bring more Hygge to my nightly routine.

I also have a few throw blankets in the room, but my favorites are the faux-fur blankets. They provide a comfortable, cozy texture that is soft and inviting.

While I love the original 1952 hardwood floors in my home, I’ve added plush area rugs to bring warmth to the living space.

All of these are examples of adding texture to home decor. Is our home completely finished, no but that is fine with me? We moved into this home less than two years ago and we are still adding and changing the texture to suit us.

I have a long list of texture improvements I’d like to make to our home, but I know this will all come with time. Planning it out and saving money for the project won’t kill a budget if we put money aside little by little.

Start small and look at the items you have already. Maybe moving a side table from one room to another changes the room for the better. Framing some artwork that your children did will bring color and wonderful memories of those moments.

When creating your Hygge home, you want to do more than just create the perfect home decor style. Whatever your decor style, you need to feel comfortable in that space. It needs to bring joy and relaxation.

If you can’t relax in the space then add something small to make it Hygge worthy. Slowly your home will become a place you will love.
