The Secret for Successful Work Routines | Improving Productivity at Work
“We’ve always done it that way.” This is the single worst sentence anyone in business can say. However, routines are more than just “doing what you’ve always done”. Why is it that some think routines are horrible, while others swear they are the best? I believe there is a secret to successful work routines and when you add this secret ingredient to your day, you can achieve success.
Some people feel stagnated by routines and look at routines as stifling, boring, and non-creative. Many feel that if they plan their day ahead of time they are less creative.
Then there are others that feel lost without some structure, or without a plan in place. They need routines to help them gain some control over the chaos that seems to consume them.
Is there a middle ground? Can routines help people at work become productive?
The Secret for Successful Work Routines
Some think that habits and routines stifle the creative soul. I’ll be realistic and tell you that this can happen. However, science has proven that our brains are in a happy place when it doesn’t have to overthink all of the time. The brain loves routines because it doesn’t have to work as hard for the little actions we do daily.
Routines can become habits that our brain gravitates to and will prefer over doing something new. Here’s another truth. There is truly nothing wrong with routines if they are helping you towards your career or life goals.
Are they moving you forward or hurting your progress?
When routines stagnate your progress they hurt your creative nature for improving anything. How do we prevent that from happening?
Many successful people use routines to help them simplify their day. They use routines to block time in their schedule for their most productive work. And block activities that are common so they are using their time efficiently.
Is this planning their day to the very last minute? Possibly, if it helps that person. For most, though, it doesn’t mean planning every last second.
Time blocking is a tool people can use to intentionally create a workday schedule that works for them. I personally time block my day and week so that I can balance between my j.o.b, my business, and my family.
I also plan out my weekly goals that have been created using The Ultimate Life Goal Journal. This is just another tool I use to intentionally create a plan that works for me.
When someone is intentionally using routines to simplify their day, they will improve their productivity and naturally be more creative towards achieving their goals. However, there is a secret to successful work routines.
Have you figured out what that secret might be?
The secret to successful work routines is being intentional with your work routines. You need to intentionally use work routines to help you succeed in your goals.
When you live your daily life blindly following a routine, you won’t move forward. Your career will be stagnant and boring. You won’t achieve your goals.
However when you learn to intentionally use routines to help you achieve your goals then you can start to see progress. You will see barriers stopping you from achieving your goals, and will intentionally take action to overcome those barriers. Intentionally tracking your progress so that you understand what is working for you and what isn’t will help you refine your routines. This intentional mindset is what will set you apart from those working their day-to-day routines, and those achieving success.
What are some of your intentional routines?
