A Mom’s Wish for all Teen Girls | Parenting Teens

Sharing is caring!

As a mom of a teen girl, I have a wish. My wish for all teen girls is for the cycle of judgment between females stop. I wish the constant need to feel better than others could be replaced by wanting to empower one another and lift each other up.

Why do women feel threatened by each other?

Why is there a need to judge another by the school they go to?

Or the clothes they wear?

Or any other ridiculous characteristic?

A Mom’s Wish for all Teen Girls

My daughter was excited to go to an event today. It was going to include friends and other girls that she didn’t know. When she was younger, meeting these new girls and getting to know them was easier. It was simple.

There was a common interest that they shared just being at that event. Bonds were made and some of those friends are still very close even today.

As she grew into a teenager life changed. It is getting harder and more confusing. Why is that?

Why can’t it stay simple like before?

Instead of coming home telling us of the new girls she met. She came home crushed that she was scoffed at for the school she goes to. Closed out of meeting those girls because of the school she attends. It is unbelievable that this age-old issue is still happening today!

When I write this it seems silly but to her, she’s hurt.

What do you say to your teen that is excluded unnecessarily?

Do you say she doesn’t need to be friends with everyone? But will she then close herself off to meeting new people?

Do you tell her that this is a common age-old issue? But will that just encourager her to stick with the status quo and continue the cycle of hate?

I'd love to live in a world where women empowered women. Where teen girls learned from their mom's to empower other teen girls instead of tearing each other down.

What do you say?!

That’s the big question. I’d love to reverse time and be there to see the interaction. Maybe I could find the words to tell all these teens to use their female powers for good. I can’t reverse time though.

All I can do is talk to my own daughter about her feelings. To love herself enough to know that what others choose to do or how they choose to act is their choice.

I can coach her to not follow their lead and to continue being herself and let her light shine.

To empower other girls to be their authentic selves and let their light shine.

I can encourage her to continue to meet new people and love them for who they are.

To let the bitterness, hate, and judgments go. Leave it all in the past and move forward knowing that love will always be stronger than hate if you choose it first.

This is my wish for all teen girls. I’d love to live in a world where women empowered women. Where teen girls learned from their mom’s to empower other teen girls instead of tearing each other down. Let’s help our teen girls rise up with an empowering movement that lifts each other up, and stops tearing each other down. Will you join me in this rise-up challenge?
