Keep Yourself Accountable Without A Boss | Simple Weekly Plan

Sharing is caring!

A good leader supports people and creates an environment where employees are accountable for their successes. They provide the tools to help guide you but you need to be accountable and motivated to succeed. By following this simple weekly plan you can keep yourself accountable without a boss.

Learning to keep yourself accountable is the best gift you can give yourself, career-wise. Whether you work in an office or at home, being consistent and diligent using a simple system will help you be successful.

Simple Weekly Plan

This simple weekly plan is a 3 step process that helps keep yourself accountable without a boss.

  1. Set Weekly Goals that map to your Big Goals: Goal setting is the first step to success, you need to have a clear picture of what you are trying to achieve and then set mini-goals to get there. These mini-goals will help break up what may seem impossible, and they will help you adjust the plan early on if something isn’t working. 2. Create a schedule that helps you achieve your Weekly Goals: Schedule for success by ensuring you are following a schedule that will move you towards your goals. Don’t let distractions get in the way to your success. Set a timer for the blocked task you scheduled. Stick to the schedule and keep a notepad handy for those thoughts that try to distract you.
  3. Review your week with a Power Hour: This is very important! Review the week by journalling what went well, what didn’t go well and how you can adjust the plan for next week. Set your new schedule and mini-goals for next week and don’t forget to celebrate your successes.  You earned it!

Staying Consistent

Working without a plan makes it hard to stay accountable. Even with a plan, it can be difficult to not let distractions affect you. As I set out on this journey working for myself, I thought “I’ve got this!”.

Even with kids at school, distractions easily put the best plans in jeopardy. This week seemed to be filled with distractions. The dance competition season just finished and I was exhausted balancing work and personal life.

There was also a project hick-up that was consuming my thoughts at the beginning of the week, and I almost scrapped my schedule to focus on that project alone.

When I sat down to focus on the project hick-up, I realized that I would jeopardize my big goals if I didn’t stay true to the original schedule. I stuck to the schedule and made adjustments to the other project as my week progressed.

Have I completed all of the adjustments for that other project? No, but had I got distracted initially, I wouldn’t have completed anything else either.

The key to learning to keep yourself accountable is setting weekly goals that map to your big goals, and building a schedule that will help you achieve those goals. Stick to the schedule and don’t let distractions get in the way.

Finally, make sure you are taking the time to do the power hour at the end of the week. Journal what went well, what didn’t, and how you are going to set up your next week for success. Take a moment to celebrate successes. You deserve it!
